Each year, SCSBA honors board members, superintendents and community leaders who contribute to the success of their school districts.

The Legislative Advocacy Award recognizes school boards that have developed and implemented an effective legislative advocacy program.

The Champion for Public Education award recognizes community residents, organizations or local businesses whose support of and contributions to public education have benefited the entire school district significantly.

The Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes the board and superintendent who work together as a team to achieve the community's vision for its school and who have the public support needed to reach that vision. The SCSBA standards form the basis of this award which focuses on the effective behaviors needed by the district's leadership to achieve this goal.

To qualify for the award, the board must have approved the standards, and participated in a board assessment with current members. All members must have attended at least one training session in the last 12 months.

Distinguished Leadership Awards are presented at the June Leadership Conference.

School Board Recognition Month each January focuses attention on the importance of local governance for community schools. Service awards honor trustees beginning at the 10-year mark and continuing at five-year intervals.
